China Agricultural University (CAU) is the birthplace of modern agricultural higher education in China. Its history dates back to the establishment of the Agricultural University of Beijing University in 1905.CAU enlisted in the national “211 and 985 Projects” of higher education in China. CAU has been selected as "First-class" university in 2017. Since 2021 CAU and its nine subjects including Biology, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, Crop Science, Agricultural Resources and Environment, Plant Protection, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, and Grass Science , have been included in the second stage of "First-class" Universities and Disciplines. CAU has a total of 19 colleges, 1 entity teaching unit and 1 directly affiliated department, covering 9 major disciplines: Agriculture, Engineering, Science, Economics, Management, Law, and Literature.
Currently, CAU has registered full-time students of 29,000. There are over 2000 faculty, including 814 professors, and 1050 associate professors. CAU has a total land of 1740 Ha (25970 Mu), including West and East Campuses in Beijing, Pinggu Institute in Beijing, Yantai Research Institute, Sanya Research Institute, Sichuan Research Institute and Zhuozhou Education and Experimental Farm. CAU has 20 national research platforms, including 11 State Key Laboratories, 1 National Engineering Laboratory, 1 National Engineering Technology Research Centers, 2 National Research and Development Centers, 2 National International Joint Research Centers, and 3 National Field Scientific Observation and Research Stations.
CAU considers international exchange and cooperation to be a significant component of its mission. Until 2024, CAU has established friendly cooperative relationships with over 260 universities, research institutions, and international organizations from more than 50 countries and regions in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the United States, and signed 497 cooperation agreements. CAU has been cooperating with Wageningen University&Research, University of California, Davis, Cornell University and University of Sao Paulo in constructing the Agre-Food Alliance (A5) since 2017. In response to the Belt and Road Initiative, CAU has initiated the College of International Development and Global Agriculture in 2017 as a Think Tank in the area of South-South Cooperation. In 2018, CAU established One Belt and One Road South South Cooperation Agricultural Education, Science and Technology Innovation League (BRSSCAL) with 75 Universities from 29 countries. On this platform it has built up 11 International Joint Research Centers across the world.

2. Qualification of Applicants
(1) Non-Chinese citizens who do not have Chinese nationality under the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China and hold a valid ordinary passport;
(2) Physically and mentally healthy, meet the physical examination requirements for Chinese Visa or Residence Permit applicants in China and the physical examination requirements of the major to study in CAU to ensure normal study and life in China.;
(3) Have no violation of disciplines, no records of public security punishment or of criminal conduct; be friendly to China and behave well; comply with Chinese laws and university regulations, and respect Chinese customs and manners;
(4) Applicants for Masters degrees should hold a qualification which is equivalent (or above) to a Bachelors degree from a Chinese university and be under the age of 35. Applicants for Doctoral programs degrees should hold a qualification which is equivalent (or above) to a Masters degree from a Chinese university and be under the age of 40.;
(5) Have acquired the English proficiency of TOEFL (iBT) score of 90 points at least, or IELTS score at least 6.0 when applying for English-taught master’s or doctoral programs;
Have acquired the Chinese proficiency of HSK Level 4 when applying for Chinese-taught master’s or doctoral programs.
(6) Meet the admission requirements of the applied universities in terms of academic ability and other relevant criteria.

4. Application Materials
(1) Passport Home Page (expires date later than December 2026);
(2) Notarized highest Degree Certificate. Prospective degree winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school.
*Applicants who will graduate must submit Expectation Certificate of Graduation.
(3) Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department;
• GPA above 3.0;
(4) 2 Recommendation letters from associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles. There is no specified format for the recommendation letters and all letters must be signed by the referee ;
(5) Study/Work experience (updated to application date);
(6) A study or research plan written in Chinese or in English (no less than 1000 words);
(7) Language qualification certificates:
English taught: English proficiency certificate (IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 90，or Bachelor/Master's Programs offered in English);
Chinese taught: Chinese proficiency certificate (HSK-4 certificate in valid period).
(8) Form of Physical Examination Record for International Student ( available at http://www.csc.edu.cn/uploads/forms/foreinphy.pdf);
(9) Visa information (only required for students in China);
(10) No criminal report ( issued by the public security department);
(11) Any published academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements (originals or copies)
*All documents should be written in Chinese or English. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
5. Application Procedure
(1) Visit China Agricultural University application system: http://apply.cau.edu.cn/ to log in,choose "CSC scholarship/ Beijing Government scholarship/ Self Fundded", fill in your personal information, choose the major and submit the materials required. The registration fee is RMB 400 yuan (not refundable);
(2) CAU will review the application materials and issue the Pre-admission to applicants who have passed the review by College.

6. Application Time (The final decision shall be based on the website notification)
China Government Scholarship: Nov 2025 to Feb 2026.
Other scholarship and Self-funded: March to May 2026.
7. Review and Examination
(1) The admission committee will review the application materials and select applicants for further examinations and interviews which are requested by colleges/departments. The applicants will be informed one or two weeks before the examinations or interviews.
(2) CAU will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201/202) to successful applicants then.
8. Inquiry and Admission Notice
The applicants will be admitted after they pass the examinations or interviews. Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Study in China will be issued in July each year. Prior to this, the applicants may check for admission status via on the website of CAU.
9. Visa Application and Admission Registration
(1) The admitted applicants should bring their Passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form, and Original copy of Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners as well as other original documents of physical examination. etc to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X1 visa).
(2) The students shall come to the International Office, CAU with the documents for admission registration before the deadline indicated on the Admission Notice and Notice of Registration for International Students （will be sent to the student's CAU application system registration email）. The X1 visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days after arrival in China.
(3) Accepted students must register on time according to CAU’s requirements. Those who are not on time with no reasons will be canceled the admission of CAU.
(4) Those who have unqualified Physical Examination or criminal evaluation and do not have the original copy of final degree certificate will be canceled the admission of CAU.
